Digital Birthday Contest: Love Potion #9--
Stock Bleeding? by ~nejfi-stock--
so, this is actually my first vexel/vector that is not part of a collab
when i read "Love Poition No 9" i immediately had the idea of showing the actual potion dripping from a beautiful mouth
AND i also wanted to use a different style of vector layers on this deviation, more rough and painty. i think there are tons of layers and only like 4 of them have 100% transparency
about the actual content?
well, she looks like she took a deep sip of the potion, she really seems to need it desperately

maybe there was some of my sub-consciousness involved

or maybe she took too much of it, and this is the stuff that is coming up again...
i don't know, make up your own mind ^^"
hope you like it

When I heard the theme for the recent digital art contest, I expected a flurry of women and bottles, hues of pinks and reds, so I have to say having the female element in this and the pink liquid from her lips pretty much falls straight into my expections, which is why I've given you low originality marks. Although it was more original than the majority of the entries I must say.
I love how you have vectored the liquid from her mouth, it looks very rich and almost of calpol quality (a liquid paracetmol which is sweetened for children). So to me it brings memories of faking being ill cos I loved the taste of Calpol haha.
The tones in the skin however, I feel are a bit too orange in this piece... the shadow being more red/orange than maybe a dulled peach or even brown... which gives it a very plastic appearance... almost barbie doll kind of feel... which is further felt with the lack of detailed shading in the neck. I would suggest if you're doing a close up of an area such as this, to add more detail into the skin and the creases of the skin. This will bring to life the area a lot more.
The hair, although some wonderful auburn/copper colours, I feel could have done with some more detail and a bit more care.
I'll go back to a previous point that if you're doing a close up, bringing out the details is important... and this is certainly important for hair. Chances are after looking at the pink liquid, the eyes wandered from the lips to the hair... it's a bold colour against the skin and needs some more depth.
Looking at the lips, again some more details, but considering this is your first solo effort, I think you have done a wonderful job. As much as I have left you several critisms, please do not be discouraged as this will all come with experience.
As a starting point, you've done fantastic... my first vector was no where as awesome as this. You have a lot of potential and if you're enjoying it, keep on going!
You came up with a good concept, your use of colours are great (although need a little bit more care I feel) and have very smooth looking shapes.
My I first begin by saying that your values are great. Each layer looks great. There are however a couple of changes you might want to consider. For example the the top of the neck should be darker judging from your reference photo. It also might be a good idea to add some darker values in the "Liquid" as it contacts the skin. On that note the area the Liquid touches the skin should cast a faint shadow.
In closing this is a excellent vector piece. You have my congratulations on an excellent first time in working with vectors. You have my
