Mythbusters' One Liners

Limit the amount of different typefaces you use. Maybe that is a myth, too?

I started this one out by using a simple Sans Serif font. Changing font sizes and line heights to make nice compact blocks.

Later on I decided to apply a "drawing" effect to the type as you all know it from the awesome "blueprint drawings" done on the show by Eric Haven, who works on the show as well. Yes, in the first episodes or even seasons the drawings were done by Adam Savage or Kari Byron, but when they found out they had a comic artist o the crew that job was quickly transferred to him Not that the early drawings weren't good. But the later ones are better

Anyway, obviously I tried to create this blue paper they use (which is also no "blueprint paper", the process behind blueprints is something completely different). I added folds and textures to it, to make it more realistic. Not with the aim to be 100% realistic tho. There is a word for that%u2026 Skeuomorphism. Look it up yourself

Okay, I moved and shoved the type around 'til it looked somewhat nice. That was over a month ago. I should say I started it back in April And basically only continued it today. Today also came the decision that, fuck it, I'm gonna use a shitload of hand-written fonts This lead to me, firstly, looking into my ( by now neatly organised ) FontExplorer and use all the hand-written fonts. I wasn't happy with what I got, so I went on a little spree at MyFonts.com and Font Squirrel.com to get more. MORE. MOAR FONTS!!!! As if I didn't already have enough

I ended up using these fonts:
Blokletters Viltstift, Boogaloo One, Chalkboard, Comic Sans MS, Flux Architect, HVC Comic Serif Pro, Knewave, Komika Axis & Komika Display, Marker Felt, Noteworthy, Reklame Script Regular Dem, SF Comic Script Bold
(Not all from those sites, some I have for ages, from other sources and some came with my system)

After having a nice range of fonts, I decided to apply some effects to the type that makes it more hand drawn. Luckily Illustrator has effects such as Scribble and Roughen, that made this a lot easier. And the Appearance Panel anyway. I love it. No, really. It's awesome. I LOVE IT!

What else? Oh yeah, if you haven't seen Mythbusters I am sorry for you. You should change that immediately Considering this is reality tv, you may be appaled, but GODDAMMIT THIS IS THE BEST SHOW EVER. THEY BLOW SHIT UP! They also polished shit once. For real. Lion's poop.
