Welcome to my (once again updated) Daily Deviation Guidelines! This is the place where you can find all the information about suggesting DDs to me and some stuff about DDs in General.
Alright, let's get started!
Come here every day to find out which deviations have been features as Daily Deviations.
From The deviantART FAQ
FAQ #61: What is a Daily Deviation?FAQ #18: Who selects Daily Deviations and how are they chosen?
FAQ #313: How can I find out if someone already has a Daily Deviation?
FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?
Galleries I can feature from
I take suggestions for:- Digital Art > Typography
- Traditional Art > Typography
- Resources & Stock Images > Fonts
- Designs & Interfaces
I do NOT take suggestions for Literature > Visual Poetry! Please send these suggestions to one of the Literature CVs: neurotype-on-discord, inknalcohol, ShadowedAcolyte or HugQueen. If you accidentally send me one, I will forward your note to the proper CV.
Make sure the deviant hasn't received a Daily Deviation in the last 6 months. I will not be able to feature the deviant if they have been featured during that time period.
How To Suggest A Daily Deviation?
There are 2 ways to do this:
- Send me a note titled "DD Suggestion" by going to my profile and hitting the "Send a Note" button.
Add the thumbcode (or link) of the Deviation.
Explain why you think the deviation should be a Daily Deviation. This will make me understand why you like it and help me choosing it as a DD. - You can also send me a note directly from the Deviation. If the user enabled the sharing via note option there will be the "Share on deviantART" button.
Add me as recipient and add the reason why it should be a DD in the message field.
The note will automatically be titled with the Deviation name and contain the Deviations thumbcode.
Those are the offical rules, what follows now is more of a personal touch and meant as an explanation as to why or why not I may feature a deviation. This will vary from CV to CV, and don't bind me to it

About Daily Deviations
A Daily Deviation has to inspire and touch people. It does not have to be a master piece or perfect. The way it makes you feel is more important than technical quality
Since I am now taking suggestions for multiple galleries, I should split the following part up a bit. While Typography is more about art, Fonts and Designs & Interfaces is more about design, obviously. I've written a journal about this before and it still counts.
I am not going to tell you what I want to see exactly, but just give some pointers as to what should be looked out for in works that are good enough to be featured.
Typography
Pay attention to proper grammar, spelling and punctuation! The only exception is using a quote for the artwork, that is "wrong" in the first place.
If you come across an awesome artwork that has errors in that regard, kindly point them out to the artist. I am sure he will appreciate the feedback and actually editing the errors will increase the awesomesauce of his work. Just remember to do so in a constructive and not descending manner.
When it comes to traditional typography, the presentation of the artwork is very important! A bad picture or a bad scan does not meet the quality of presentation an artist's work deserves.
I am sure if you tell someone kindly that their work would look much better with a better photo, they will appreciate this feedback.
Fonts
Fonts are a design object and less an art object. Naturally a font could go both directions and that is fine. The more design a font is though, the better is its usability.
An "art font" usually cannot be used for many purposes, if its look is very specific, so is its usage.
Language support is important, but not an uberly decisive factor when it comes to featuring fonts.
As well as the variaty of styles of a font. The more styles the better, but creating a font is freaking hard work, if you only submit one style, that is totally fine with me.
I see a lot of deviations in that category that are not original creations. While I will never understand why someone would upload something to DA that they did not create themselves, it is a problem, because there are font designers that do not mind their work being shared on many websites.
Just make sure the font has actually been designed by the artist who submitted it.
Designs & Interfaces
This is a pretty big gallery with many sub-categories and a lot of content and unfortunately a lot of miscats.
The most important thing about a design is, that it should be usable. A beautiful design, with bad usability, is bad design. Design has to be smart and put content first.
Design has to be built around content. Without content it is meaningless. Design that is filled with "Lorem ipsum" is not built around content, it is usually built around a visual concept that simply exists for existing.
There is a difference between illustration and design, too.
For example when it comes to CD Cover design, a lot of people submit the illustration for it to Designs & Interfaces. But it will only be a CD Cover Design as soon as the musicians name and the album title are included. (Unless the concept is not to include it, hello White Album.)
Such an illustration is much better suited in one of the "art" galleries on DA.
Often times I would look into an illustrators gallery and forward a note with his artworks as a suggestion to another CV I don't care who gives a good artwork a DD, it does not have to be me
This happens a lot when it comes to for example T-Shirt Graphics, which are often a double submission by the artist, first they submit the artwork on its own, later they re-submit it as a T-Shirt Graphic.
I could probably write something about each category, but man, there are so many. I just hope you get at about what I am saying
General
Some things are valid for all deviations, so here go those points.Non-English Deviations
If you are familiar with the language, please mention in your suggestion note what the piece is actually about. If you don't speak the language in the deviation either, politely ask the Deviant what it says. Or try google translateI like to know what the deviation I feature actually says.
Is the Deviation a recent submission by the artist?
Artists develop and as they do, they sometimes start to dislike their previous artworks. If you come across a great artwork, but it is over a year old, take the time to visit the artists gallery and look for a recent submission.Especially pay attention, when the Deviant has received a Daily Deviation for a more recent artwork, than the one you want to suggest.
Is the deviation finished?
I will not feature a work in progress.Visual features of the work
When suggesting a work, you can pay attention to one or some of these points:- Visual impact of the artwork.
- Quality of the technical execution.
- Originality of the visual or concept.
- Composition.
It is impossible for an artwork to match all those listed, but it may help you in finding words to describe the Deviation and why it is special.
Suggestion Checklist
General Typography
Are spelling and grammar correct? Is a translation provided, either by the artist or suggester?
Traditional Typography
Is the artwork scanned or photographed well and presented in its best light?
Fonts
Is the font legible? Can it be used for many purposes? Is it an original creation by the artist?
Designs & Interfaces
Is the usage clear? Does it display the content clearly? Is it actually a design and not an illustration?
Self-Suggestions
I do accept them. It is completely fine to be proud of your own art and wanting to reach a broader audience. If you do send in a suggestion, please don't forget to add why you think it should be featured as a Daily Deviation. This will make it easier for me to understand why you like it so much and I will have an easier time, finding words about it. Also I will not use your name as the suggester in the DD description. There is nothing to feel uncomfortable about, when suggesting your own work
